Killua’s taking of Alluka in the previous episode for his goal of helping Gon is definitely something that’s been a high point lately since it takes us back to the kind of cunning and rules that can be manipulated in a fun way. It also showed us more of who Killua is in a way, something that often comes up when we end up back in the vicinity of family, and it definitely made an impression on his father as he saw how masterfully his son used the rules and situation to get what he wanted. Right or wrong doesn’t really enter into it here because this family of assassins has its own rules and seeing them work it has its rewards. But now Killua also has to face the risks in a clearer way since he’s managed to make his move successfully.

Gon’s situation continues to be a kind of stable direness as he’s in a bad way, completely under care and not waking up no matter who it is that’s come to see him. And we do learn that a number of his friends and comrades from the show so far have come to visit him, which is nice to see even if they do it in a kind of simple black and white flashback aspect. While Killua has made it through the main feat here of getting Alluka out of her room and into the outside of the mansion, there’s still a few things he has to contend with, including a bodyguard that’s being assigned to him as well to keep an eye on things as we get Canary watching over things. This is an interesting situation as we have a few of the servants there and Alluka even asks Tsubone for something, just her pinky, and that’s highly unusual in and of itself with what it means and could lead to.

With the show bringing in a bit more of the cast as Killua is now moving towards helping Gon and making some progress, we get some decent stuff as even Morel finds a place within things to be a go-between in a fun way. What Killua has to deal with through the intermediaries is setting up the right conditions for Alluka to do what’s needed and that gets a little complicated, though it does all get mostly handled. This is all interesting to be sure, though with the way this show works, you know it’s going through the paces in a pretty standard way. What we do get that breaks from it though is some welcome time at the Hunters Association where we get to catch up with Leorio as he deals with the election campaign that’s going on, making it surprisingly personal as he asks why Ging has not gone to visit his son. The election side started off bigger in the arc and deviated to Killua, but touching on it here is pretty nice since it lightly connects the two storylines.

In Summary:
Hunter x Hunter does a lot of decent stuff with Killua and Alluka here as we get more of how his situation is turning now that he has her and is working to help Gon. There’s a good bit of time spent on some of the rules and requirements that everyone is going through and that has its own sense of flair and fun about it that I definitely enjoy. Thankfully, we get a little time with what’s going on with Gon since being hospitalized, but we also get a decent bit of time with Ging at the end with the election side as Leorio really does what you want him to do in asking his questions of Ging about his son. It’s a good re-bonding moment for viewers to remember why Leorio is so good to have in the group, even if he’s been absent for what, a year or more?
