What They Say:
The three girls and Syrop continue walking through the desert in pursuit of the Lucasite. Leviatan attempts to magically produce water for her thirsty friends, but without her spear, the water she summons evaporates immediately. Having finally reached her limit, Bahamut stops and throws a tantrum, insisting she can’t move any more.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
With the first six episodes telling such a weak and poorly animated tale, it’s little surprise that the seventh episode doesn’t really do all that much different. With the trio walking along, and Syrop floating along as well, the desert trek of the series is something that can definitely be a bit mind numbing overall, just because you know that someone is going to get all whiny and petulant about the whole ordeal as they make their ways towards the Lucasite. These aren’t exactly the most engaging of characters to begin with, but when you put them in a situation like this, they become even less appealing since it’s all about the whining in the end. Well, outside of Jormungand since she just moves right along with her strength.
The first half of the episode is mostly pretty mindless stuff as they make their way across, find some limited things to eat and generally struggle with the heat and the oppressive nature of the desert. The group does end up finding some interesting things, such as various ruins and the like, and that leads to some discussions about different places they’ve seen over the years. And one of them is a place where all of them have visited before, a secret place of sorts, where they each had different experiences with it but it showcases a bond between all of them from their childhoods that they didn’t even know about. It also ties to what we saw before with the mysterious young man as he was in all of their encounters at this particular site as kids as well, which makes their bonds all the stronger with each other.
The show basically mostly puff piece material otherwise and we have some moments of delusion (or rather, illusion) come up that’s cute since it involves Jormungand and her lost spear. Thta she finds another one in some ruins later on isn’t a surprise since she can’t be without her powers, and it’s a simple struggle overall to try and get it as each of them gives it a whirl, with only Leviatan able to do it. But since it’s a blue spear, are we surprised? Anime, color coded for your enjoyment. That all just leads to the next thing, which is what next episode will bring. Which means no real surprises here.
In Summary:
Zettai Boei Leviatan doesn’t break any new ground here but it does try to firm up the way the main trio are all connected in the past, making their present bond all the stronger. Sort of. They may all talk about the things they did and saw in the past that’s pretty similar, but mostly it just leaves you seeing them all doing info dumps in between complaining about the heat and the desert. Getting to the ruins and hauling out the spear is a little different since you expected Jormungand to do it, but when you smack yourself upside the head for not realizing it would be Leviatan because of the color coding, everything comes into focus and you realize that once again, this is just an awful show.
