First Trailer For ‘The Raid’ Debuts One of the fun things about September are all the film festivals and one that’s underway at the moment is the Toronto Film Festival. One film that’s come out of it that’s getting some really rave reviews is something called The Raid, which is an Indonesian film by Gareth Davies. The whole premise is very simple in that it’s a raid on a thirty story highrise to take out a kingpin at the top of it. The trailer, which MTV has gotten a copy of, is a red band trailer no less and it does have some brutal moments to it. The plot is paper thin but it’s supposedly a nearly continuous action movie once it gets going and the whole thing is being scored by Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park.

Check it out below and see if it needs to be on your must-see list.

First Trailer For ‘The Raid’ Debuts

‘Godzilla’ Set To Conquer In 2014 While it’s been in the talks for awhile, the date has now been set for the Warner Bros. release of the Legendary Pictures film for Godzilla. The big budget tent pole film is now set for a May 16th, 2014 release and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. except for Japan where Toho will be handling the distribution of one of their biggest and most well known brands. With Toho having been involved in over twenty-five films and so much more, it’s not a surprise in the slightest.

While details aren’t nailed down, it’s expected that this will be given a 3D release.

“The film is directed by Gareth Edwards, who earned worldwide acclaim for his feature directorial debut, “Monsters.”  Edwards directs from a screenplay by David Callaham (“The Expendables” films), David S. Goyer (the “Dark Knight” trilogy) and Max Borenstein (upcoming “The Seventh Son”).  Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce, along with Roy Lee, Dan Lin and Brian Rogers.  Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher will serve as executive producers alongside Doug Davison, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.”

‘Boogiepop And Others’ Gets Nozomi Re-Release With the recent priced down edition of Boogiepop Phantom, it’s not a surprise but it’s welcome news to see that Nozomi Entertainment will bring out Boogiepop And Others this year in a priced down version as well. The live action feature which has a 158 minute runtime is set for a $9.99 price tag and will be released on October 9th, 2012. The feature serves as a prequel to the TV series and was directed by Ryu Kaneda (Video Girl Ai movie, and Negima! TV drama) based on a screenplay by Sadayuki Murai (Boogiepop Phantom, Mushishi movie, Steamboy).

Plot Concept: The cold dead of night is a dangerous time to be near Shinyo Academy. Girls have begun to mysteriously disappear without a trace, and the school is alive with rumors. Some say the girls are just runaways, but with each new disappearance, a lingering fear grows ever stronger – fear that a shinigami… the very spirit of death… is prowling through the streets of the city. They say you never see it coming… a lone whistle splits the dark silence, and it suddenly appears behind you to steal your soul…

However, Nagi Kirima has never feared the darkness. She’s determined to uncover the truth, but there aren’t many clues to follow. A mysterious new drug that’s appeared on the streets… A homeless man who’s more than he seems… A girl still haunted by a serial killer who died five years ago… Nagi must take every fragment and piece together the entire story, before more students end up missing… or dead.

‘Boogiepop And Others’ Gets Nozomi Re-Release

Switchblade Pictures Adds Oniroku Dan’s ‘The Slave Ship’ License (PR)

Switchblade Pictures beckons you to take a voyage on the THE SLAVE SHIP, where you’ll cruise past any shade of grey straight into the ultimate darkness of the human soul!  Born from the pen of internationally acclaimed bondage novelist and screenwriter Oniroku Dan (FLOWER AND SNAKE, THE DEVIL’S FEAST,) THE SLAVE SHIP is notable for the many apparent parallels between the central character, a famed S&M novelist, and Dan himself, widely considered to be one the most influential authors in the history of erotica.  However, although Dan wrote over two hundred novels and dozens of screenplays over his long career, and was particularly noted for bringing unique Japanese forms of bondage to the attention of world popular culture, it is unknown as to exactly how much of the story is autobiographical.  Directed by co-screenwriter Satoshhi Kaneda, and featuring a cast of genre icons that includes Kyoko Aiyome (NEW TOKYO DECADENCE,) Nao Masaki (PINK LINK,) Mio Saegusa (MISS SPY,) Maki Tomada (PARADISE TV,) and Mutsuo Yoshioka (UNDERWATER LOVE,) the dark erotic thriller was distributed theatrically in Japan by Shintoho.

Onimata Kan is famous for two things: a successful career writing S&M erotica, and hosting the erotic gatherings aboard what has come to be known as the Slave Ship, where the main attraction is the auctioning of the services of sexual partners willing to fulfill any desire.  But if it’s all consensual, there’s no harm, right?  At least, that’s what Onimata believes until he learns that one of the frequent auctionees has gone insane, and that her husband believes the cause is related to a stalker she had acquired.  Are the activities aboard the Slave Ship somehow to blame?  Fearing the answer, Onimata goes to investigate the mysterious Kitagawa, and soon learns that his own writings only hint at the extremes to which some will go.  From the famed pen of S&M novelist and screenwriter Oniruku Dan comes a tale that blurs the lines between reality and fantasy.  Is this a work of fiction or a documentation of fact?  You’ll have to determine the truth for yourself, once you’ve booked passage aboard THE SLAVE SHIP!

THE SLAVE SHIP will be released for Home Video on subtitled DVD November 13th.

New ‘Rurouni Kenshin’ Live Action Film Teaser Released With the sights set on the August 2012 release date, more elements from the live action adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin are coming to light and the newest is a clean look at the teaser trailer that was recently show in Japan. Clocking in at just over a minute, it hits a lot of action, key scenes and characters to showcase how they’re adapting the film under Keishi Otomo’s direction. With Warner Japan producing this and having a strong interest in bringing over things to North America, it’s likely that this will see eventual release in at least the art house circuit and select film festival showings once it gets closer.
