ComiXology Sets New & Notable Digital Comics For July 12th, 2015 The quiet digital first release day of Sunday is still mostly quiet here as we get the latest installment of Mortal Kombat X, which we’ve been getting for over half a year now. But this Sunday sees a little extra material as well with the third part of the mini-event with Justice League: Gods & Monsters.

DC Comics is making a solid push with the series as it introduces a good bit of material with it, first doing three series of three part books for the main trio and then launching into a multi-issue overall arc that brings them together, all of which is tied to the animated work that they brought out earlier this year.

SUNDAY RELEASE
Mortal Kombat X 28 DC Comics
Justice League: Gods & Monsters 3 DC Comics
Paramount Acquires ‘The Mighty’ From DC Comics Deadline is reporting that Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to the D Comics miniseries The Mighty. The series ran for twelve issues from April 2009 to March 2010 as written by Peter Tomasi and Keith Champagne with artwork by Peter Snejbjerg. According to the report, it will be produced by the Mary Parent’s production company Disruption which is based at Paramount. With the recent tightening down of properties by DC Comics in the last few years with its parent company of Warner Bros., this one gets to slip through the cracks as it was a creator owned series not under their control or in the DC universe proper but rather determined by the creators themselves.

Plot summary: Welcome to the world of The Mighty! Alpha One – America’s first and only Super Hero – is supported by Section Omega, an entire police force devoted to assisting him in his quest for justice. Lt. Gabriel Cole has worked his way up the ranks of Section Omega and his connection to Alpha One reaches back to his own tragic childhood and an accident nobody could have survived. But when murder strikes at the top of the organization, the case falls into his lap, and he’ll begin to learn what being a hero is really all about!

Same-Day Digital DC Comics & Comixology Report For December 7th, 2011 After a very quiet off-week last week as the infamous fifth week of the month hit and DC Comics put out only a couple of miniseries and licensed properties, the first release week of December brings us back to the large wave of titles that really got the enthusiasm moving back in September, and rightly so. This week sees the big titles hitting again and we’ve got a bunch that we want, especially with Action Comics and Swamp Thing hitting. What we’ve found though over the past three months is that due to the variety of books, and our desire for many of them, we’ve shifted quickly to the +1 method already for most things. With the price drops that happen, it means we can get our hands on more titles. And some series we’ve opted to do the six issue roundup on instead so we can just barrel through a lot of material, which will certainly skew how DC Comics is tracking sales since they may happen more in waves. Same day purchases for some, +1 for the next and then storyline conclusions getting a batch of issues at a time.

What are you grabbing this week and what methodology is dominating your digital purchase?

ComiXology Sets New & Notable Digital Comics For June 19th, 2015 Friday has arrived again and after a deluge of releases this week that we’re still going through, I’m glad to have a bit of a breather again today to try and collect my throughts. That said, we do get a pair of new books out that are definitely fun for different reasons. Batman: Arkham Knight continues on with Tomasi and Guara hitting up another installment as a digital first release. Archie Comics is getting another collection out as well with the something for the Jughead fans out there as it’s him against the world.

Arkham Knight: Physically exhausted after an intense all-nighter, Batman squares off against Bane for one last showdown! But does the Dark Knight have anything left? Will Bane finally crush his nemesis once and for all? And where’s the Arkham Knight been all this time? Find out in the finale of “Bane of Existence”!

Jughead: Jughead has always marched to the beat of his own drum, but not everyone thinks that’s a good thing! Lots of people have tried to change him, and it never seems to work the way they plan! Is Jughead the nut that nobody can crack? Find out in this digital-only collection and watch Jughead face off with the entire WORLD!

Netflix/Marvel ‘Jessica Jones’ Series Gets Teaser & Premiere Date With a good nod towards some of the Hell’s Kitchen aspects of the Daredevil promotion that we got with the street and color tone, Marvel and Netflix have let loose with the first teaser spot for Jessica Jones. What the teaser also reveals is the November 20th, 2015 release date for the entire run of the show on the Netflix service. Let the binge planning begin.

The series stars Krysten Ritter, David Tennant, Mike Colter, Rachael Taylor, Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty and Wil Traval.

The property from the Marvel Comics world was being developed as far back as 2010 with Melissa Rosenberg set to write and run it and it made it close to going into the 2012 season with ABC, but ultimately the studio passed on it for a variety of reasons. Now Rosenberg will be shepherding the series through the Netflix deal with Marvel and ABC Studios.

Jessica Jones is the second show to run in the development schedule after Daredevil and will be followed up by the Luke Cage and Iron Fist series that culminates in The Defenders.

Plot concept: After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter, Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23) is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City. An enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past, Kilgrave’s reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero’s world.

‘Lady Killer’ Series Previewed With a tagline like, “Betty Draper meets Hannibal!”, well, how can you not check it out even a little?

Dark Horse Comics has a new series coming from Joelle Jones and Jamie Rich next year with the January 7th, 2015 debut of Lady Killer. Jones has been building up a good slate of work recently with titles such as House of Night and Madame Frankenstein and this series certainly looks to be right in her wheelhouse with its design and aesthetic. With this series, she’s doing the artwork while writing with Jamie S. Rich to bring out something disturbing yet fun for its run as a miniseries.

Plot concept: Josie Schuller is a picture-perfect homemaker, wife, and mother—but she’s also a ruthless, efficient killer for hire! A brand-new original comedy series that combines the wholesome imagery of early 1960s domestic bliss with a tightening web of murder, paranoia, and cold-blooded survival.

‘Dreadstar’ Shifting to TV Development After we initially learned last year that Dreadstar had been optioned and seemingly on the path for a theatrical adaptation, it now looks like the parties involved are more interested in going the TV route, which makes sense as there’s a slow but growing push towards more science fiction on TV once again. While originally Benderspink was working with Illuminati Entertainment to bring it together, they’re now out of the picture and Bendersprink is working with Universal Cable Productions, which has this already feeling like it might be pushed towards the Syfy channel for obvious reasons, especially if this year manages to get the network to really reclaim the ground with what they have on and in the works.

“I consider ‘Dreadstar’ to be an extension of my family, so it took me a while to feel comfortable letting anyone else take care of this project,” Starlin told The Hollywood Reporter. “It has taken some time, but I know I’ve put my trust in the right team and I’m excited to collaborate with Universal Cable Productions and Benderspink to bring ‘Dreadstar’s’ unique brand of chaos to television.”

Jim Starlin’s Dreadstar was picked up for development by Benderspink and Illuminati Entertainment. J.C. Spink of Benderspink is reportedly a fan of the property and pursued the rights upon discovering that they were actually available. The series has had a few comics done over the years and has moved to various publishers due to it being a creator owned title. Starlin has a long and storied history in the comics, including the creation of Thanos, Drax the Destroy and Gamora, characters that are now populating the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Plot concept: Dreadstar features the adventures of Vanth Dreadstar and his crew! Dreadstar, the last survivor of the destroyed Milky Way Galaxy, found himself transported to the Empirical Galaxy! There, recruited by the sorcerer Syzygy Darklock, Dreadstar helped bring an end to a two-hundred-year-old war between the corrupt Monarchy and the fanatical Instrumentality.

‘Squadron Sinister’ Set For June DebutThis isn’t your Squadron Supreme as Marvel Comics is setting an all new Secret Wars series with the June debut of Squadron Sinister. The new book comes from writer Marc Guggenheim (Arrow Executive Producer) and artist Carlos Pacheco (Captain America) that’s going to delve into “an epic crime story of superpowered proportions!”

“[Squadron Sinister] is very much in keeping with a crime drama,” says writer Marc Guggenheim in an interview with Marvel.com . “A lot of my touchstones were the Godfather movies and ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ ‘The Sopranos’. You know, that very criminal centric drama that shows that heavy is the head that wears the crown.”

Plot concept: Hyperion, Nighthawk, Whizzer, Doctor Spectrum and Warrior Woman. Together they make up the deadliest team of villains Battleworld has ever seen. Lording over their domain of Utopolis, they dispense devastating justice to any and all in their path. But will controlling just Utopolis be enough to feed their lust for power?

But threats from without and threats from within seek to undo everything Hyperion and his gang have built. Rulers from other domains mobilize against these superpowered aggressors. Devastating lies and secrets from within the Squadron itself may tear the team asunder. And seeds sown here bear bitter fruit for the future of the Marvel Universe. The measuring stick for evil just changed – and these five titans are it!

Marvel Previews New ‘Spidey’ Series Marvel’s long had the problem of dealing with its characters getting older while still trying to appeal to younger readers with teenagers that can be identified with. While long time fans can enjoy seeing their characters grow up, get married and deal with the story changes that come from there, there’s also a lot of stories to tell about the teenage characters. Marvel’s doing just that this fall with the arrival of Spidey, an all ages oriented series that’s part of the main continuity but deals with the teenaged version of the character as written by Robbie Thompson (TV鈥檚 Supernatural, Silk) and blockbuster Marvel Young Gun artist Nick Bradshaw (Wolverine and the X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy).

鈥淓veryone remembers their FIRST Spider-Man comic,鈥?says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. 鈥淪PIDEY aims to be perfect as someone鈥檚 first Spider-Man comic, or their one thousandth. We鈥檙e not looking to re-tell stories here. What Robbie [Thompson] and Nick [Bradshaw] have put together is an exciting new take on Spider-Man at his arguably most iconic incarnation, and will feel fresh to new and old fans alike.鈥?/p>

鈥淥ut of the 700+ issues of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN鈥?shares Spider-Man Editor Nick Lowe, 鈥淧eter Parker was only in high school for thirty issues! Stan and Steve covered a lot, but there鈥檚 a lot of the high school and early super hero experience still on the table.鈥?/p>

Plot concept:聽Class聽is in session as two of the hottest creators in comics take Peter back to school for a classic and iconic take on the Spider-Man mythology. Familiar faces and new characters populate Peter Parker鈥檚 world as he balances his double life as a high school student and the high-flying, web-swinging new hero Spider-Man!

Iconic villains, a classic supporting cast, the ol鈥?Parker Luck and more are back! Don鈥檛 miss one moment of these bombastic new adventures as Thompson and Bradshaw create a legend of their own when SPIDEY #1 comes to comic shops later this year!
