Simply Natural Wedding at the Fermoy Estate

While every detail of Jenny and David’s wedding was carefully considered, the resulting look focuses more on natural beauty than an overly-manicured aesthetic. Cathrin D’Entrement Weddings organized and designed the couple’s dream wedding, tying together shades of sage, gray, ivory, and tan with leaves and textiles. The intimate outdoor ceremony took place beneath a big tree at Fermoy Estate , where the couple’s happiness permeated the air.

The Couple:

Jenny and David

The Wedding:

Fermoy Estate , Wilyabrup, Western Australia

The Inspiration:

We were inspired by the worldview of Kinfolk (a slow lifestyle magazine) and the Japanese aesthetics of wabi-sabi, which is the art of finding the quiet beauty in simplicity, in modesty, in imperfections of nature, without embellishments. We always preferred leaves without flowers to flowers without leaves. So we wanted the decor/venue to not be extravagant, not deliberately manicured or made to look “too pretty”. Our colour decor idea was to use most of the natural browns and greens and blues surrounding us. For the wedding day, we wanted our guests to be relaxed and comfortable so we banned all formal dressing and strictly no tuxedos! David himself did not wear any tie on the wedding day! My dress was tailored made by Time Taken to Make a Dress, and it was a light blue long-sleeved column dress, a modern take on a vintage style. It actually looked a lot like my mother-in-law’s wedding dress back in the 70’s which my mother-in-law still safekeeps to this day.

The Moments:

My favourite moment was dinner. We had a luxury of having a small wedding and managed to fit all of us into the pavilion floating at the edge of the lake. The candles and the hanging fairy lights created a warm and cosy atmosphere in the wooden pavilion when the night turned very cold and dark outside. I remember the conversations and laughter shared over good food and wine during dinner, it was a very festive and joyous mood indeed. To us, our wedding was not only about celebrating our love for each other but also celebrating the love of family, of kinship, of friendship, of community.

The Couple Recommends:

As this was a destination wedding (we were based in Singapore), we worked closely with Cathrin and she made very good recommendations for the various wedding professionals whom we engaged and we enjoyed working together with them. Cathrin is highly responsible, trust-worthy, organized, quick to respond, and very creative in her handicrafts. Cathrin did a marvelous job with setting up our table decor to reflect exactly what we wanted – she used small ceramic vases of clean solid colours and lined them along the centre of the tables with round blue-gray silver dollar leaves. She also made the hessian place mats and the ribbon signs for the groom and bride chairs that elevated the setting. We appreciated her invaluable expert opinion throughout the planning process and she worked tirelessly till the actual day to ensure that everything ran smoothly.

We also highly recommend Bamboo Catering. We got in touch with them quite late into our wedding preparations but they were very responsive and easy to communicate with. Our guests enjoyed the food which was fresh and in-season and the presentation was beautiful. The individual plated desserts (we selected in lieu of a wedding cake) were especially delicious and pretty. Bamboo Catering and the waiters they hired were very professional, friendly and organized. We were also very impressed that the chefs prepared all the food in the cottage’s kitchen which was not considered a “professional kitchen” in our opinion, but nevertheless still surpassed our already high expectations with what they delivered.

We would definitely recommend Still Love. Fun, friendly and relaxed husband and wife photographers, not intrusive, professional and have good eye. When they finally sent over the finalized edited photos, some of the moments they captured were so moving they made me cry! Simply Natural Wedding at the Fermoy Estate

Colorful Waterfront Wedding Photographed by Gabe McClintock

Beth and Ben’s wedding is made up of a few of our favorite things: epic views of Australia, barbecue, and Gabe McClintock ‘s photography. Everything about their wedding day is absolutely incredible, from a backyard party style celebration to waterfront portraits as newlyweds. We’re especially in love with the delightfully vintage table decor and the berry-topped naked cake baked by Beth’s lovely sister-in-law.

The Wedding:

The Oasis Eco Retreat , Port Stephens, New South Wales

The Inspiration:

I am a wedding photographer so I see a lot of ideas and themes but I knew that we wanted to just represent ourselves and our family, keep it simple and comfortable. We had an amazing stylist who I am now lucky enough to count as a friend, who had the most incredible ideas. I told her a few things I didn’t like then said I trusted her to style the event however she wanted. And it was perfect. Better than we could’ve imagined.

What we wore just happened and thankfully it worked well together. I bought my dress online from America for $300 and had it altered, the girls dresses were chosen so they could still maintain their individuality and I let Ben choose the suits for him and the boys.

The Moments:

Being walked down the aisle by my father and eldest child, hearing one of my oldest friends singing and playing guitar for us, then reaching Ben and seeing tears in his eyes. He isn’t an overly emotional guy and seeing that was the best.

The Couple Recommends:

Everybody that was involved was so good. But there are a couple we were blown away by. Firstly, Gabe was amazing. We were so grateful to him for travelling the distance he did, from Canada to Australia, to be our photographer. His work is amazing and so is he. He made us feel comfortable and the images are beyond anything we could’ve ever hoped for.

Second, the amazing husband and wife team from Visually Creative. Alison is one of the most talented creatives I have ever met and her styling made our wedding day absolutely perfect. I didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted, only what I didn’t like. I left the rest up to her an she absolutely nailed it. She teamed up with my talented girlfriend Amber for the florals and were just amazing. We cannot thank both of these vendors enough.

There is no question this dreamy garden wedding in Sydney, Australia will make your heart skip a beat! With a garden ceremony venue, beautiful lilac and gray colors and amazing wedding party on the sea, this romantic day was a memorable adventure for Erin and Matt. To top it off, it was beautifully captured by Chris Prestidge of At Dusk Photography , recent recipient of the prestigious award “Emerging Wedding Photographer of the Year” by Capture Magazine.

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? It was really important to us that our wedding was a celebration and not just a formal event. We wanted everyone to feel comfortable and relaxed, and have a great time! We decided to run with the romantic and rustic theme, with a few touches of elegance.

What was your wedding color palette? We chose to pair a feminine dusty lilac with a more masculine gun metal. We then mixed splashes of these colours with the classic bridal creams. We also used recycled brown paper for our invitations, working with our rustic theme.

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? Our wedding style sort of evolved throughout the planning process. We werent the sort of people who knew straight from the get-go how we wanted the day to unfold. What we did know was that we wanted our guests to feel relaxed and to be able to spot a few special touches that reflected our relationship. We started thinking of what we could make ourselves, and discovered the simplest things could have the biggest impact! We decided to have our ceremony at the Botanic Garden. This is where we went on our first date, so it held a very special significance for us. Plus, it was a beautiful background for our photos! During summer, the gardens are bright and colourful,so we let the beauty of the garden provide the ceremony decor. At the reception, we tied in our bridal colours with homemade pom-fleurs and candles hanging from the roof; splashes of color on the tables and rustic lanterns; and candles and flowers as the centre pieces. So many of our guests commented on how our handy work made the night feel so much more personal. Both the groomsmen and bridal party got ready in buildings next to each other. The ladies spent the day getting pampered in a hotel. But, the groomsmen chose to get ready in a friend’s unfinished loft! The convenience of the locations played a big part in the choice, as well as the amazing views of the harbour. But, we also liked the idea of having such contrasting settings for our photos.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? Of course the ceremony was a special part of the day and saying our vows in front of our family and friends is something that we will both cherish. We also loved the end of the ceremony, looking into the huddled crowd as they blew bubbles towards us in those first moments as husband and wife. One of our favourite parts of the day was sailing across Sydney Harbour as the sun was setting and enjoying a glass of bubbles with our bridal party after the ceremony. It is something we will always remember and it definitely made for a grand entrance! We hadnt told any of our guests, so it was quite a surprise to see us sail in towards the jetty while they were enjoying canapes on the deck. We loved hearing the cheers and seeing the looks on our guests’ faces as we waved to them from the yacht!! We were really pleased that we chose to have a friend make our cake – it gave the experience a very personal touch. Another special moment for us was leaving the reception. Our guests lined the jetty with sparklers as we ran through and jumped on a boat! It made for a magical end to a perfect day.

What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? Take all the help you can get! While you may feel like you need to be across all the decision making and planning, having other people organize the parts of the day that you arent particular about really takes off some of the stress (and makes for a few nice surprises on the day!)
