Bianca and Gary’s wedding is a beautiful combination of romance and classic elegance. It’s rare for a wedding to incorporate a dreamy cherry blossom scene with a historical setting, but this combination certainly formed an unique wedding theme for the lovely couple, and it’s absolutely stunning.  Every image captured by the talented Brandon Scott Photography portrays love and joy – the natural interaction between the couple, the loving family bond, and all the neat little details.  Join us as we share Bianca and Gary’s wedding story below.

Romance in Bloom – Windsor Wedding from Brandon Scott

The love story

Bianca: Gary and I grew up nearby each other, only a few streets away.  We attended the same schools throughout, but ironically didn’t actually meet until after graduating university!  We shared many of the same interests and activities, and quickly formed a strong bond.  We dated for 5 years before Gary proposed in October 2011.

Gary’s proposal

Bianca: Gary proposed to me during our vacation to Montreal.  We had finished dinner at a restaurant and were strolling through the city, when he stopped on the steps of the famed Notre-Dame Basilica and asked for my hand in marriage.  It was the perfect setting, and a private moment for us.

Thoughts from the couple

Our vision for the wedding was that of classic elegance.  The venue for our ceremony was on the manicured lawns of a late 19th-century Italian Renaissance style building, and the reception hall overlooking the riverfront.  The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for a May wedding in Canada!  The flowers and trees were in full bloom, and our photographers took full advantage and incorporated it into the wedding photos.  We couldn’t have been any happier with how the day went, and are so thankful to have shared the experience with our families and friends.

Thoughts from the photographer

Brandon Scott Photography: Gary + Bianca’s wedding was in May and in the small 1.5 week window when the trees are in full bloom.  Their outdoor ceremony was held at one of the most historic buildings in Windsor.  Incorporating the soft pinks and whites with trees in bloom worked perfectly.

The bride’s favorites

Best wedding moment: During Gary’s speech he promised to do whatever he could to make sure I was always happy, including getting me a puppy! Over the years I have always wanted a puppy however Gary had been reluctant to agree. This was an exciting surprise!

Favorite wedding details: Instead of hiring musicians, we asked my uncle to play the guitar at the ceremony. Over the months leading up to the wedding this became a family affair and along with my uncle, my aunt and two cousins all learned music to play at various parts of the ceremony. This was a great personal touch!

We never thought that the Ice Chapel can be such an incredible and memorable wedding location, until we saw Flora & Ryan’s wedding photos captured beautifully by White Photographie . This wedding is like a romantic fairytale-come-true, with magical scenes and unbelievable beauty. Join us as we share this lovely intimate winter affair below.

Ice Chapel Wedding from White Photographie

Unique destination style

White Photographie: We began the day in the bridal suite at the beautiful Chateau Frontenac, where we were able to capture some truly dramatic bridal photos alongside its amazing architecture. The Ice Hotel (Hotel de Glace) is located only 10 minutes from downtown Québec City and is one of two ice hotels in the world. The Ice Hotel is without a doubt one of the most amazing destination wedding locations for couples in search of a perfectly white winter wedding.

Flora & Ryan both live in Toronto, but with family around the world they decided on a destination style wedding to accommodate family travel. Choosing this amazing venue meant that everyone could spend a wonderful winter weekend together and experience an intimate wedding ceremony with Flora & Ryan.

The Ice Chapel

White Photographie: The wedding ceremony took place in the breathtaking ice chapel, complete with an ice altar and seating covered with fur.  After the ceremony all the guests made their way to the Ice Bar where everyone is served Champagne in ice flutes to congratulate the newlyweds.

Thoughts from the photographer

White Photographie: In our first consultation with Flora & Ryan they told us their wedding would be held at the Hotel de Glace in Quebec.  We had heard of this amazingly unique venue, but had never been there – to say we were excited would be an understatement! This was a truly unforgettable wedding and we are so happy we had the opportunity to experience it with Flora & Ryan and their family and friends.

Chelsea & Collin’s Summer Camp Barn Wedding from Maria Hibbs

Chelsea & Collin’s love story

Chelsea: Our story starts out as a not-so-romantic tale.  A mutual friend brought Collin to my housewarming party in Houston, Texas, where I (partly intimidated by his good looks, partly overwhelmed with hosting) exchanged about 2 works with him.  Six months later, we met again at their mutual friend’s wedding, and danced the night away.

Several days later, Collin called to ask me on a date, which I outright refused (crazy, I know). This happened a few more times when Collin, ever tenacious, suggested dinner at “a place with great platonic food”.  After that dinner Collin and I began our awkward and exhilarating friendship, with lots of biking, running, watching MadMen, and wondering, “what are we doing?!”.

Finally, he asked for a date once more, adding “Think about it! Don’t answer right away!”   This time I said yes, and we started our adventure with martinis by the bayou!

Proposal story

Chelsea: The summer we started dating, the Houston Museum of Natural Science was open 24 hours a day. Collin and I would frequently go there at night and look at the butterfly house, and on one of those nights, Collin first told me that he loved me.

Two years later, Collin suggested we take advantage of Houston’s Free Museum Day and visit all the Houston Museums. So, we, along with every child in the Houston area, went out that day to explore art and science for free! Towards the end of the day, we wove our way through a sea of sweaty, yelping kids to the butterfly house, where it was surprisingly quiet. With butterflying flying about, Collin proposed! My amazement continued when we drove to a nearby restaurant to find our close family and friends gathered for an engagement party! It was an unbelievably perfect day.

Chelsea & Collin’s Summer Camp Barn Wedding from Maria Hibbs

Wedding theme and inspiration

Chelsea: Summer camp was my favorite place on earth as a kid. I wanted our wedding to have that same kind of outdoorsy, free feeling, and with wildflowers, a giant seesaw, campfire and s’mores, it couldn’t have worked out better!

Planning Priorities

Chelsea: Photos were our biggest priority from the start. Maria Hibbs had done the photos for my best friend’s wedding the previous year, and they turned out incredibly well. Plus it was great to know Maria had a really easy going approach on the wedding day.  Otherwise (with lots of help from family and friends) things just kind of fell into place!

Chelsea & Collin’s Summer Camp Barn Wedding from Maria Hibbs

The Venue

Chelsea: The Amish Barn is actually a working cattle ranch that belongs to our family friends, Don and Paula House. I wanted the venue to be at a private location, if possible, so I wouldn’t have to deal with limits on how many people to invite, etc. Don and Paula graciously offered their barn, ranch house, and land, and we set to work turning their working ranch into a wedding venue! It really felt like the wedding was an old timey community affair, with people from all over pitching in to help in the weeks leading up to the day! After our wedding, Don and Paula decided to open up the barn for other weddings, and started The Amish Barn at Edge!

Chelsea & Collin’s Summer Camp Barn Wedding from Maria Hibbs

A celebration of love

Chelsea: Collin and I gathered photos of guests on their own wedding day, and strung these up for everyone to see in the reception area.  We really wanted it to be a day celebrating love of all sorts, not just our own! It was so fun to look at all the different wedding photos and see the joy on everyone’s face as they saw their own!

Wedding planning advice

Chelsea: A few weeks before the wedding, my dad (our wedding officiant) encouraged us to write love letters to each other that reflected on the early days of dating, why we love each other now, and what we hope for our future.  Writing that letter was so powerful, especially because the weeks leading up to the wedding can feel anything but romantic.  We exchanged letters on the wedding day (Brides, I recommend reading your letter before your make up is applied!).

On a less romantic note, if you’re getting married in a “hands off” venue, I would strongly recommend hiring a wedding planner, even if your budget is tight!  Having a wedding planner made the wedding weekend so stress-free! We could sit back and know that all the last minute details would be taken care of by the pros!

A magical wedding

Michelle Gardella: Emily and Dan’s wedding was beyond special. Every single detail was personal and rooted in story and meaning. The entire day was soaked in love, laughter and the closeness of family and friends. I left this wedding completely in awe of just how deep and true their love really is.

The lovely couple

Behind the camera – about the photographer

Michelle Gardella: My name is Michelle Gardella and I live with my incredible husband (and second shooter) Thomas and our two children, Braedon and Lily.  I am hopelessly dedicated to telling the truth with my images, and reflecting authentic beauty and love out into the world. My favorite weddings to capture are intimate, outdoors, and filled with personal touches.

Rustic Vintage-Inspired DIY Wedding from Michelle Gardella

An unforgettable moment

Dreaming Tree Events:  My favorite part of the wedding day is when Dan totally lost it while saying his vows, and his brother had to read them. Then his brother wasn’t doing it to Dan’s standards, so he took it back and continued. It was an amazingly touching ceremony with a ring warming and it was even performed by one their friends.

Wedding design and planning

Dreaming Tree Events: Emily had tons, and I mean crazy tons of ideas and decorative items to incorporate into her wedding day. She just needed some assistance with narrowing things down and bringing the design all together. We worked on design ideas for a few months and when the day finally came, wow did we have some décor to set up. I am so happy she trusted me to throw all the items we had discussed together and let me set it up how I see fit. Trust is a huge deal with working with a wedding planner. You have to have trust between the two of you in order for it to come out stunning, and this day totally did.

Rustic Vintage-Inspired DIY Wedding from Michelle Gardella

Dreaming Tree Events: Everything to the fabric draping on the big focal point tree, the beautiful green ribbons Emily had put together, all the eclectic items from various houses. It was all so beautiful and all so Emily and Dan.

A remarkable ending

Dreaming Tree Events: I have never seen such a long line for a sparkler send off in all my days. Usually by the end of the night people go home for a night cap and head to bed. Not this crowd, they were all ready to go!

If you are looking to tie the knot in a timeless, fairytale-like setting, Italy is definitely a place you should consider. It never ceases to amaze us with its historic charm and unadulterated romance. Giovanni & Agostina’s gorgeous affair is Italian wedding romance done right! In addition to the beautiful details and stunning scenery, what touched us the most is the magical moments of love captured in breathtaking images by Riccardo Cigno . The precious emotions reflected through the photos are downright contagious! Join us as we share Giovanni & Agostina’s lovely wedding story below.

Romantic Italian Villa Wedding from Riccardo Cigno

Sweet love story

From the Bride (Agostina): We met in 2007 in a birthday party of a mutual friend. We liked each other for about a year, but never found the right moment to reveal our feelings.  In January 2008, we finally had our first date. From that moment on, we can on longer live without each other.

5 years later, on Giovanni’s birthday, the greatest gift arrived! After an evening of festivities, he took me home and brought out the ring and asked me to marry him! My heart was filled with love and joy and I said yes!

Romantic Italian Villa Wedding from Riccardo Cigno

A wedding that truly represented “us”

Agostina & Giovanni: We really wanted our personalities to be fully reflected through our wedding without compromise.  We wanted an elegant and romantic event, but at the same time full of fun and unique ideas.  We achieved our goal by paying attention to every single detail and selecting the best vendors that matched our style and needs. The planning process was very challenging especially when we were given limited time, but it was definitely well worth the effort and we had a beautiful experience!

Wedding planning general information

Wedding theme: Romantic

Approximate number of guests: 240

Budget:  About € 40,000

Best Wedding Moment: Our vows in church with the exchange of rings!  Looking deep into each other’s eyes and promising eternal love to each other was so beautiful! It felt like no one else existed!

Favorite wedding detail: the venue and harp music in the church

Advice for couples planning their day

Agostina & Giovanni: Rely on professionals in this field and trust their instincts, but never forget that your wedding should be an unique event that represents you. On your big day, professionals will help you stay calm and allow you to live every moment of your fairytale without stress.

Special thoughts

Agostina & Giovanni: The day was made special by the people who enthusiastically shared our happiness. Knowing that our guests were having a good time was the best gift we could get. The feelings that could not be expressed by words were shown from the photos captured by Riccardo. Riccardo was our biggest helper and friend who documented the joy and beauty of our special day through images with strong visual and emotional impact! His work totally exceeded our expectations!

Romantic Italian Villa Wedding from Riccardo Cigno

Thoughts from the photographer

Riccardo Cigno: Giovanni & Agostina are one of the most amazing couples I’ve ever known. Their bond has touched me from the first time that we met. For a photographer like me, whose style is very much based on the emotional side of the wedding, getting to know the couple and empathizing with their wishes and expectations is always of paramount importance.

The wedding was full of crazy and spontaneous moments. It was held in the small village of Celano (L’Aquila, Abruzzo), dominated by one of the most impressive castles of south Italy. The scenery was just stunning!

One of my favorite images from this wedding was the one with the couple in the car and the castles in the background (the last image of this post).  The sense of intimacy and romance presented through this shot was a big success (and I have to admit it was a shot that I had in mind for some time).

The celebrations continued until late at night in “Villa Elena”, one of the most beautiful and well-managed properties in this region.

Romantic Italian Villa Wedding from Riccardo Cigno

About Riccardo Cigno

Riccardo Cigno is a fine art wedding photographer based in Sulmona, a small town in central Italy famous for its “confetti”. 27 years old and self-taught, since he began photographing, his greatest desire was to become a good wedding photographer who had a different approach to the traditional ways of shooting weddings (typically for Italian cultural weddings).

Passionate about reportage but not despising the charm of a good portrait, Riccardo combined the two things trying to develop a personal style that would allow him to be outstanding for spontaneity and refinement, emphasizing the whole with a meticulous post-production process of the images.

Despite his young age, he photographs weddings all over Italy, and also has experience with foreign clients (Germany, China, UK, USA). In 2013, he was included by AG|WPJA (The Artistic Guild Of The Wedding Photojournalist Association) among the “Top 60 Wedding Photographers In The World”.

When Janice and Anthony from Let There Be Light Photography shared Wai Jia & Cliff’s beautiful wedding story with us, we were in tears and knew that this is the story we’ve been waiting for.  Wai Jia and Cliff’s marriage is an amazing testimony of faith and true love.  How they walked through challenges in health, finances, distance, and family truly touched our hearts, and we just can’t wait to share these with you. Sit back and enjoy this lovely story along with stunning images captured by one of our favorite photographers – Let There Be Light Photography.

I Will Risk Myself on You from Let There Be Light

Praise: How did you meet?  What do you like the most about each other?

Wai Jia: Well, we didn’t! He was in Canada, I was in Singapore! According to Cliff, he says he knew he wanted to marry me even before meeting me in person. A professional videographer who read about how we met from my blog made this video for us, to share our story. It was screened on our wedding day:

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jflEPT-oLCE]

Cliff: Even before we met, my first reaction was, “She is the one!”  She loves triathlon, loves God, loves mission work and loves the poor.  I loved reading her blog even before we met, especially about her honest struggles with helping the poor.  Of all the qualities I like about Wai Jia, the one that stands out is her compassionate heart for those at the fringe of society.

Wai Jia: What I love about him- too many to list! His love for God and the poor, his tenacity to love big and love strong, his determination, unwavering loyalty, his positivity, sense of humour… and his biceps, haha!

Praise: Tell us one or two of the biggest obstacles you’ve faced in your relationship, and how did you overcome them?

Wai Jia: As mentioned in the video, Cliff had a liver transplant due to Cancer when he was ten years old. Being a doctor and knowing all the side effects of the medication he is on, I had to overcome the major metal hurdle of being able to accept this. But seeing how God moved mountains for us to be together and how his life has been a miracle all these years, I realize I could embrace this by putting my trust in God. Cliff is now my greatest inspiration.

Cliff: The biggest obstacle to me was geographical.  When we first knew each other, I was in Canada and she was in Singapore.  After a month of emailing each other, I asked her if I could come and visit.  Wai Jia’s mentors thought it was a bad idea. As much as I wanted to, I respected that.  For me, it was important to honor those who cared for her.

Back home, I had many commitments too. It would have been irresponsible and crazy to just pack up and move over for a stranger; so I had to release my desire and eventually told God I would be happy to be wherever He wanted me to be, even if it meant being single. What was so divine was how after I prayed, God opened doors and brought me to Singapore to work at a non-profit Christian organization so I could be where Wai Jia was.

I Will Risk Myself on You from Let There Be Light

Praise: How did Cliff propose?

Wai Jia: He proposed from the start! Three months after writing to me, even before we met up in person, he wrote to me, “I think it’d be great for us to do ministry together in future!” I laughed so hard then.

I Will Risk Myself on You from Let There Be Light

Praise: How long did it take you to plan your wedding? What was the first thing you’ve done in the planning process? What took you the longest time?

Cliff: On 5th November, 2011, I landed in Singapore to work and by 27th October, 2012 we were married.  As you can see, we got together quickly after 2 years of writing.  But we didn’t start wedding planning until we had parental approval.  Before I proposed to Wai Jia in person, the first thing I did was to meet up with her dad to ask for his approval to marry his daughter.  Because I am a missionary and Wai Jia had just started working, he was not convinced we could be financially independent. We waited as we both believed that it was important to have parental blessings.

Wai Jia: Instead of disobeying them, we started to pray and fast. Amazingly, they had a miraculous change of heart and were extremely supportive! So our planning started only 6 months before the wedding day. First thing we did was to thank God and our parents. Finding out their expectations for the wedding was very important to us. Everything took off really quickly after that, so I guess what took us the longest time was waiting for our parents’ approval. It was definitely worthwhile! Cliff is such a favourite with them now.

I Will Risk Myself on You from Let There Be Light

Praise: What is the most unforgettable thing you’ve experienced on your wedding day?

Cliff: I will never forget watching my beautiful bride and her dad walking down the aisle.  Since they started walking from the back, the clapping and cheering came from behind.  As the sound traveled to the front where I was standing, it felt like a wave.  It was an incredible scene.   To be standing there and realizing that it was God who had put us together was incredible.  I was in awe and praised Him for His Goodness!

I Will Risk Myself on You from Let There Be Light

Wai Jia: Seeing how God provided for us.  Two months before we married, Cliff and I were greatly burdened by a ministry in Cambodia that rescues abused children trapped in trafficking and gives them hope and healing. We made a decision to give away all our wedding “angpows” (monetary gifts) to them. Seeing how expensive a wedding would cost, this was a big step of faith for us. Nonetheless, we knew God was challenging us to trust Him. This would just be the beginning of our journey as future missionaries together.

Truly, God provided abundantly for us. A professional videographer who read our story online made a video for free for us, a blog reader from overseas shipped over hand-made wedding decorations, friends with great photography skills offered their talents and a friend lent us his white convertible as our bridal car. Just days before our wedding, another blog reader generously offered to sponsor ALL our flowers, and the gentleman owning our wedding dinner venue waived the fee entirely!

I Will Risk Myself on You from Let There Be Light

Praise: Did you DIY anything for your wedding?

Wai Jia & Cliff: Plenty! “Save the date” invites, wedding invites, guest cards, our RSVP site… Wai Jia is an artist and children’s book illustrator so she drew most of it according to the theme of the book “ I Love You ” that we launched on the day, which stars a Bunny and a Bear; Cliff is an IT specialist so he put everything together online! Friends from church also crafted beautiful décor pieces and items like flower-girl accessories.

I Will Risk Myself on You from Let There Be Light

Praise: How did faith shape or change your relationship?

Cliff: I always tell Wai Jia that my goal in this relationship is to help her love God more than me.  The Christian faith is central to us and shapes every aspect of our relationship.

Wai Jia: Without God, we would never have come together.

I Will Risk Myself on You from Let There Be Light

Praise: Any advice or tips for brides/grooms-to-be?

From Cliff to grooms-to-be:

1. I always believe that the health of my marriage is in direct relation to my walk with God.  As the head of the household, it is the man’s duty to love his wife as God loves him.  This does not necessarily come naturally because by default, we are self-centered.   Only someone spiritually fulfilled can love unconditionally.  I ask myself daily – am I willing to die to my wants and needs and place her desires above mine?   A lot of disagreement, arguments, and conflicts stem from selfishness.  So my tip for grooms would be to love your wife unconditionally, the way God loves us.

2. My second suggestion to a groom-to-be would be to see your wife not merely as someone you chose to love, but as a gift from heaven. In Proverbs 18:22, it is written that: “The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favour from God. “  Wai Jia isn’t just a person I choose to spend my life with.   She is a gift from God and therefore I treasure her as such.  Just as God created Eve as the suitable helper for Adam, our relationships have divine significance.

I Will Risk Myself on You from Let There Be Light

From Wai Jia to brides-to-be:

1. Love him – In the midst of the busyness of wedding and home planning, never place those demands above your husband-to-be’s. Take time out to enjoy each other’s company, thank him for the hard work he’s putting in above the demands of his job, and make sure he has enough rest. Spend time to read about what it means to be a good wife. Invest in pre-marriage courses and books. In short, be the person he wants to marry.

2. Spare him – Shopping for wedding dresses week after week, looking at décor catalogues and choosing flowers might not be the kind of thing he gets as excited about as you. SPARE HIM! Go with your girlfriends instead. By giving him more time to rest and cast a vision for your future together, you might realize this might be the best for the both of you. Let him enjoy the wedding planning process too.

3. Honor him – Conflicts are bound to arise working on your first project together. Make a commitment to listen to him and choose to let go of what’s not important. The whole point of a wedding is to celebrate your union to him, so don’t let any wedding fancy take precedence! Things will go wrong on the wedding day. It will not be perfect. Just remember, it’s not the wedding day that’s of utmost importance, it’s your marriage. No matter what happens (hole in your dress or a stained train- like mine!), keep your chin up and smile. Just remember, he loves you for the person you already are. Honor him by enjoying getting married to him!

I Will Risk Myself on You from Let There Be Light

Wai Jia & Cliff: We hope our wedding will inspire many newly weds out there to marry with a mission, not only to love each other, but to love their community around them. Whether its fundraising for a worthy cause, or sharing about a compassionate mission you both have, making a difference to the poor or needy will no doubt make your special day memorable, not only for yourselves, but for others too!

Planning for a wedding really is a journey of friendship and faith. It’s not about getting things done, but learning about each other through the process. Being pressed for time, being caught between family dynamics and learning to accommodate each other surely brings about many unexpected stresses, but with a good learning attitude, this journey will bring you two closer, and not further apart.

Marriage is more than your love for each other. It has a higher power, for it is God’s holy ordinance, through which He wills to perpetuate the human race until the end of time. In your love you see only your two selves in the world, but in marriage you are a link in the chain of the generations, which God causes to come and to pass away to His glory, and calls into His kingdom.” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer)

Thank God for your spouse-to-be; ask yourselves if you are investing as much time in your marriage as you are in your wedding; take some time off to cast a vision for your future together. Laugh together, dream together. Remember, a wedding is for a day, but a marriage? That’s for a lifetime.

Today’s styled shoot has filled our minds with the prettiest of thoughts. Dreamed up and captured by Butter Studios with a talented team of contributors, the gorgeous details will have you pinning the day away. It’s romantic and elegant, with just the perfect amount of vintage-inspired beauty and French influence. Get inspired by this breathtaking, timeless inspiration below!

Blue & Gold Vintage Glamour Styled Shoot (from Butter Studios)

Classic elegance – where modern meets vintage

Butter Studios: We thought we could kick off the Spring Season with a styled photo shoot that is inspired by vintage details, a French influence, with an overall classic feel.

From a photography standpoint, we wanted that vintage feel without making it feel like we were trying to recreate a setting from the past. Instead, we wanted to simply capture that elegance from a different time period and still let our audience know that this type of classic elegance can fit in today’s modern world.

While we came together in this small team of contributors, each one was the perfect fit for this shoot. The planning really started with a beautiful Jenny Packham “Eden” dress. An embroidered tulle over charmeuse sheath gown with beaded cap sleeves. After falling in love with the dress, which generously sponsored by Bisou Bridal for our shoot, we found the perfect model in Danica to present it. It then came down to designing the right surrounding. We created the couture set by selecting from a huge variety of antique pieces provided by Vintage Meant for Rent .

Romantic Confections

Butter Studios: The colors we focused on were blue, gold, white and a touch of pink. The hand-painted macarons provided by La Macaronette of course added a little flavor to the shoot and the stunning cake designed by Kien and Sweet , completed the look that we were striving for. Every little bit of detail on the cake was painted and created by hand. The amazing detail would have you think that it was purchased, but this only proves that with true talent, a cake can be a masterpiece.

Gorgeous Details

Butter Studios: The model’s makeup and hair was inspired by a modernized vision of Marie Antoinette, perfectly executed by Margaret Lai . Beautiful couture pieces from Elsa Corsi at Jeweliette , including a set of French-inspired earrings, cuff bracelet and hairpiece accentuated the look we were striving for. Finally, the floral pieces designed by Balconi Floral , completed the styling with a classic and elegant finish.
