The Goals: We knew that we wanted the day to be all about celebrating with our family and friends. We have been dating for nine years and they have been a huge part of who we are as a couple, so our priorities centered around throwing a great party. We wanted the ceremony and reception to be romantic and meaningful, filled with small details of our relationship.

The Design: We wanted the atmosphere at our reception at The Powel Crosley Estate to feel like you were dining al fresco in an Italian vineyard. We served all of the food family-style, had Bocce playing on the lawn, strung up cafe lights and had the wine pouring! We had lanterns, potted herbs, cork place card holders and burlap runners dressing the tables. The Powel Crosley was my dream wedding venue and a lot of my inspiration came from its beautiful house and grounds. One of my bridesmaids even created a hand-sketched drawing of the house which became the main design on our invitations.

The Look: My wedding dress was much more than I ever thought I would have. I went in for a fitted gown and came out with a ball gown! But all my previous inspiration went out the window when this dress stole my heart with its pearl beaded bust and silk draping bottom. I felt incredibly glamorous! I love Kate Spade , so my bridesmaids surprised me the morning of the wedding with a pair of their mint colored heels with a gold bow! I loved that my bouquet was wrapped in a piece of my late-grandmother’s silk scarf which my cousins have started passing down for each of our wedding bouquets. My bridesmaids wore long navy dresses made by b2. They carried baby’s breath bouquets and my great grandmother’s Spanish fans.

The Moments: I think my favorite part of the day was reciting our vows during our ceremony. They were so romantic and personal and I could just feel this energy in the church. It was such a happy moment! There are a lot of things that stand out in my mind, but dancing into the night with our friends and family was so perfect and everything I wanted our wedding reception to be.

The Advice: If I was to give advice, I would say to focus on the things that are truly important to you. Don’t get caught up in the little details and focus on staying true to who you are as a couple. Oh, and that your mom is probably right about a lot of things!

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? We wanted our guests to leave our vineyard wedding with the sense that our event had captured who my husband and I really are. That is, we wanted our wedding to be beautiful, quietly elegant, fun and most of all, memorable! First, we wanted our guests to feel appreciated, loved, and have a good time! To do that, we knew that the winery setting would do a lot of the work for us. The scenery was perfect because we were surrounded by beautiful vineyards. Second, we were focused on the tone of the wedding and felt that the rustic barn at the winery really set the mood for the wedding, because it brought out the fun, relaxed vibe that my husband and I have. Third, we loved the more rustic feel that burlap and mason jars have, and decided to dress up something so comfortable with elements that fit us (such as cute straws, polka dot napkins, signs). We had fun with the crafts involved and trying to add details that would make our guests know that we were thinking of them in small and large ways (out of town gift bags, toiletry baskets in bathrooms at the wedding, welcome drinks when they first arrived). By adding these elements, we were able to personalize our wedding and make it feel beautiful and natural to fit our personalities.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? I think what helped us throughout our planning was remembering that it was so much about our family and friends coming together for one special day and that it was about us too! We made sure to enjoy the wedding planning process and not get overwhelmed by all the stress. We loved the people we met along the way and had fun getting to pick things out together. We allowed our personalities to include the little bits we added into the wedding. I think the best advice we received was to make sure to enjoy our wedding day together- that is, spend time together at our wedding and not be too overwhelmed with trying to say hello to everyone. We had some time together during the craziness, a chance to slow down and let it sink in, and that is something I will always treasure.

Some of my favorite moments were the first look that we had before the ceremony, saying I do, listening to our friend sing our first dance song, the speeches, so many surprises from our friends (a MOH rap, my Husbands friends played live-song and we were raised in chairs, a choreographed dance performance from our little 6 year-old twin ring bearers) and the cupcake trailer from Enjoy Cupcakes!

What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? Make sure this wedding has elements of you throughout it, which includes how you handle the planning process. Remember that all the details come together so keep your focus on the bigger picture: you are marrying your best friend and the love of your life, surrounded by all those you love. Enjoy the planning, make it fun and not a hassle. Enjoy your day and dont let the little mess-ups get in the way. Take deep breaths and savor every part of it!

I’ve been noticing flower crowns blossoming on both the runway and in real weddings this spring, and can’t think of a better way to add a little romance and whimsy to your wedding day look! I had the pleasure of talking with the oh-so-talented Addison Searles of Twigss Floral Studio about the beautiful floral head wreaths they’ve been making for their brides and how flowers are the perfect way to top off your wedding style!

Why should brides consider a floral head crown? Tell us about why you suggest floral head wreaths to your clients. We love that head wreaths are an old custom. They represent honor, virtue and the changing of seasons, which we think is really cool. And although they are an older custom and have some deeper meanings, we believe they add a new, fun and fresh spin to a bride’s overall look on her wedding day. They are something that we encourage our brides to wear because we love crafting them, each on is so unique and special. There is a lot of detail and time that goes into making these special pieces – they arent your average daisy chain! we also tell brides that its the perfect excuse to wear flowers in your hair! Think about it…how often do you have a good excuse to do that?

Can you still carry a bouquet when you have a head wreath? Totally! In fact we recommend it because the more flowers the better in our opinion. Another great thing about a head wreath is that if you love flowers (like we do) then during your reception you can be hands free and still be rockin some amazing blooms. But for those brides that dont want to go flower crazy, they could totally just wear the head wreath and not fuss with a bouquet.

Do brides usually wear a veil with the head crown? Not with the head wreaths weve been making. I think that it really depends on the bride and her style though. Veils would be a beautiful touch and add more of a vintage look to a head wreath. We are always open to whatever is special or sentimental to the bride!

Are there different looks you can create with a floral head wreath, besides the typical sweet, romantic vibe? Are there ways that you can make the head wreath elegant or modern? Oh yes! That is our favorite part; there are so many options! Weve made an amazingly cool hippy-chic one, with daisy, clover hops, bachelor buttons and wild sweet peas. Weve made a beachy one, with sword ferns, sea shells, and garden roses; and an elegant one with ostrich feathers, rhinestones and roses. The possibilities are truly endless!
