It’s official, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has started production. Johnny Depp will be coming back as Captain Jack Sparrow, along with a host of other pirates from the first four movies, for a new adventure inspired by the famous Disneyland ride. The film might be the last chance to keep the franchise afloat after the dismal reviews of the fourth film, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

According to Coming Soon, Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films will not be taking many chances with fresh actors. Johnny Depp will naturally star; Geoffrey Rush will return as Captain Barbossa, along with Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs and Stephen Graham as Scrum.

Remember when “Pirates Of The Caribbean” was just a breezy, two-hour blockbuster that didn’t cost too much money? Oh wait, that was never really the case. From the two-hour plus runtime of the first film, ‘The Curse Of The Black Pearl,’ eventually bested by the staggering 168 minute slog of ‘At World’s End,’ to a budget that soared to nearly $400 million with ‘On Stranger Tides,’ nothing has ever been small about this franchise. With cameras now rolling on the fifth installment “Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” over two years before it’s slated to hit theaters, we can only assume this one will be another monster.

After several years of development — the picture was originally going to arrive this summer — production has begun on location in Australia on Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales,’ with Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning directing. But what’s with the long wait until 2017? Is Disney hedging their bets? Do they need an extra amount of time for post-production because the film is so epic? Are they just holding out a far off date in case another tentpole doesn’t come through and they can adjust ‘Pirates 5’ accordingly? Who knows.

Anyway, Javier Bardem, Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites, and Golshifteh Farahani are joining Johnny Depp‘s Jack Sparrow in his latest swashbuckling adventure, with Geoffrey Rush, Kevin R. McNally, and Stephen Graham reprising their roles from previous entries (so much for those Orlando Bloom rumors). The official plot sounds typically involved:

Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

But Jack’s idyllic life capsizes after his nemesis, the wily Captain Barbossa steals his ship, the Black Pearl, and later attacks the town of Port Royal, kidnapping the Governor’s beautiful daughter, Elizabeth Swann. Elizabeth’s childhood friend, Will Turner, joins forces with Jack to commandeer the fastest ship in the British fleet, the HMS Interceptor, in a gallant attempt to rescue her and recapture the Black Pearl.

The duo and their crew are pursued by Elizabeth’s betrothed, the debonair, ambitious Commodore Norrington, aboard the HMS dauntless. Unbeknownst to Will, there is a curse that has doomed Barbossa and his crew to live forever as the undead–when exposed to moonlight, they are exposed to living skeletons. The curse they carry can be broken, only if a once-plundered treasure is restored.

Every coin has two sides. This definitely makes sense on cosplay. People who are fond of personating their favorite anime or movie characters with particularly made costumes usually consider costume plays as funny or meaningful activities where participants express their personalities and lifestyles. Nevertheless, people who dislike anime reality shows often hold an opinion like this: those fantastic events offer people places to escape from reality. Then, what do you think?

Pirates of the Caribbean may be the quintessential theme park attraction. It is a masterful blend of fanciful storytelling and high-tech wizardry — but the latter never overshadows the former. The robotics, special effects, conveyance system, music, and other elements meld seamlessly to sweep guests away into a mythical, three-dimensional pirate world. The other Pirates rides start by sending their boatloads of passengers down a short, but attention-grabbing, drop. (California and Paris feature two small waterfalls.) It is as if Disney transports guests to a mysterious subterranean netherworld where skeletons come to life and break into rousing choruses of the Pirates theme song.

The potential “brides” pose for the leering pirates, while an auctioneer presides over the event with authority and startling clarity. According to Disney’s Marty Sklar, Imagineers updated the auction figures through the years to give them more fluid and sophisticated articulation. Originally, the pirates chased the women, but in the politically correct 1990s, Disney altered the scene. The oblivious pirates seem more interested in drinking their rum than escaping danger. The famous “hairy leg” pirate sits idly on a bridge above the guests as fire consumes the village. A trio of pirate prisoners is intent on escaping the inferno. They try, unsuccessfully, to coax a dog into bringing them the key to their cell.In 2006, characters from the popular Pirates of the Caribbean films, which were, of course, inspired by the ride, came full circle and were incorporated back into the attraction. Remaining true and reverential to the original story, the ride now features startling animatronic figures of Captain Jack Sparrow as well as some of his shipmates.
