Venus Angelic teaches us all how to truly doll up, with her make-up techniques

We have long followed the exploits of Real-life Barbie along with her friends and family. Many were shocked and awed by the convincingly artificial look she achieved while others wanted to look like her too. At least I think I remember some people wanting that… I swear there was that girl that one time with the earrings…

Anyway, for those who want to achieve the doll look themselves, we present an instructional from England’s Venus Angelic teaching us how to create doll-eyes. Although it looks time intensive, her techniques look easy enough for anyone with rudimentary make-up skills to be able to pull off.

The basic steps involved a laying down a thick base of moisturizer (three layers).

Then, she inserts some dark rimmed iris lenses. Venus recommends doing this before any make-up to avoid messing it up.

After that, she applies three layers of concealer to her eyes and nose to flatten out the contours.

Next, she applies some powder to the entire face. Venus warns not to use too much and choose the color carefully for the best doll look.

On top of that she adds some pink and red eye shadow. Then she runs some lip-liner along the bottom eyelid and upper eyelid crease.

Next, comes the mascara, and lots of it, to get those lashes as thick as possible. When you’re finished with that, add on some fake eyelashes.

Apply blush to your cheeks and temples and then some bronzer to the outer curves of your face. Also use some bronzer to thin out the nose for a more artificial, doll-like appearance.

Use brown and cherry lip-liner, blend it in for softer looking lips, and apply gloss.

And congratulations, you’re a living doll!

Venus Angelic’s style was more conservative that we’ve seen from other real dolls in the past, but using her same principles and a little cosmetic daring and talent you could take it anywhere you want to go.

The basic concepts seem to be just smoothing out the face and adding contrast to the eyes. In fact, it certainly seem like even we could do this to someone, and when we finally coax Mr. Sato down from the top of the fridge we’ll know for sure.

Someone finally built the massive, room-filling Dragon Ball Z diorama the world deserved

They probably told him it couldn’t be done. They said there wasn’t enough resin in the world. Not enough time in the day. No room big enough. Only a Super Saiyan or someone with all the Dragon Balls could possibly build such a thing in the span of a lifetime.

But Dragon Ball Z fan Juanpe, of the Spanish municipality of Jerez de la Frontera, knew it had to be done. He knew the world deserved a gigantic diorama, the size of an entire bedroom, of all the Dragon Ball Z characters re-enacting one of the series’ most famous animated battles in minute detail. And he knew he was the hero to do it.

The Namek Saga, the second major story arc of the Dragon Ball series, features the epic showdown between series protagonist Goku and his band of friends, and the memorable agendered (presumably) reptilian villain, Frieza, and is the subject of this mind bogglingly massive and tear jerkingly beautiful diorama painstakingly handcrafted by Juanpe.

All the major series characters make their appearance and the diorama covers the major events from the Frieza arc. There’s even a recreation of the enormous dragon-like God, Super Shen Long, that very nearly touches the ceiling of the room that is just barely housing the massive work.

Unfortunately, there’s no information on just how Juanpe made the diorama, or from what materials, so we’ll just have to settle for gaping at these photos:

Congratulations, Juanpe. We never believed it could be done.

Japanese Twitter user attempts British cuisine, ends up with monstrous fish dish from hell

As a British person living overseas, you get to hear a lot of negative stereotypes about your country’s cuisine. Generally, people think that we eat nothing but fish and chips, washed down by copious amounts of tea, and that the rest of our food is bland, unappetizing and poorly presented. But this couldn’t be further from the truth – British people are actually crazy about food and cooking, we’re obsessed with celebrity chefs and cooking shows, and Britain has plenty of Michelin-starred restaurants to be proud of.

Still, there’s certain aspects of British cuisine that are hard to defend, like the disgusting fish dish known as Stargazy Pie, which one Japanese Twitter user recently attempted, to horrifying results and plenty of ridicule…

Stargazy Pie is a traditional Cornish pie which features a bunch of baked pilchards popping their heads out of the crust. It’s fairly indefensible as it looks completely disgusting and probably tastes worse (although I have to admit, I don’t think I – or any other Brits I know for that matter – have ever tried it).

Bizarrely, a budding Japanese cooking enthusiast decided to bake up their own version of this extremely niche, local English recipe in order to share the results online (really, they shouldn’t have bothered). Here’s what they came up with:

▲ “I tried to make a British Stargazy Pie, and it ended up looking like a scene from hell LOOOOOL”

On the left, a “textbook” Stargazy Pie. On the right, a monstrous mash of fish body parts and… wait… where’s the crust? Where’s the PIE? That’s just a rice cooker filled with fish!

It does seem that if you’re going to attempt a recipe, you might at least try to get some (if not all) of the ingredients right. Maybe they were going for some sort of Japanese/British hybrid fusion cuisine?

“That looks disgusting,” pointed out one commenter. To which the OP responded: “It tasted really good, though!” Hmm. We suspect there’s a bit of trolling going on here.

For the record, here’s what a proper home-baked Stargazy Pie should, apparently, look like:

A Franco-German artist is tasked reinterpreting an iconic symbol of Japanese culture. The torii gate is usually seen outside of Shinto shrines as a marker designating an entrance into a sacred space. Benoît Maubrey is creating a more interactive version than the traditional red ones found throughout Japan.

Meriken Park in Kobe will be the site of a torii made entirely out of 300 recycled speakers. The sculpture is functional and includes a four-way channel so visitors can speak to one another through the gate using a microphone or their smartphones. When it’s not in use, the gate will emit varying kinds of white noise.
