Plot concept: 1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It’s a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents–townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors–all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.
Did The Expendables do well enough to warrant a sequel? While it got plenty of decent buzz and some solid love from classic action fans, the $80 million project brought in $275 million worldwide just in its theatrical release. Add in VOD, PPV, rental and home video sales and that’s a nice chunk of change to try and see if you can make the magic happen twice.
“We basically said, we want to do it, [would] absolutely love to do it, but it’s gotta be 100% different from the first movie, everything, except for Nic. We want the character to look different, feel different, sound different. The backstory of the character’s different, the origin of the story is expanded upon in ways that the first movie didn’t hint at, at all. The location’s different, the whole cast is different; the only thing that’s the same is Nic…It’s pretty much a reboot, only with the same actor, which makes it: a requel. Or a seboot, I can’t decide which one I like better.”
When talking about the first movie, they’re pretty clears about what they want to take from it, which is basically nothing other than Nic Cage himself.
“The first attraction was Nic and the second was the character and just how cool it could be. [I wanted to] kinda make the Ghost Rider movie that I wished I had seen before.” “The reports of the budget of Ghost Rider have been greatly exaggerated. It’s about the same as [Gamer]. We didn’t have a lot of money to make this film…but we’re pretty creative. It’s gonna look fuckin’ huge.”
And for those wondering when we’ll see more than some on-set shots and the like, with post-production gearing up now and special effects since all of the principal photography is done, it looks like Comic-Con is where it’s going to be at this year:
“[Blackout’s] a fun character. His powers are pretty cool, we did things with his powers that aren’t in the original comic books…We’re gonna do a huge splash at the Comic-Con. That’s when we really want people to see what the new, evolved Ghost Rider looks like as well as the first peeks at the villains.”

Plot concept: The story takes place far in the future where a young boy has to navigate an abandoned planet on a space ship that has crashed. On board is his estranged father.
What more need be said?
Through the Marvel site and released to the general press today are a number of new images from X-Men: First Class which shows off some very nice concept artwork for a couple o f the characters and some new shots of January Jones herself as Emma Frost in a couple different outfits. With the film just over a week away and garnering lots and lots of attention with positive early reviews, the studio and Marvel are ramping up anticipation which certainly seems to be catching, though of course it also has the effect of pushing some folks away who are feeling bombarded with it. But with the film largely being viewed as a disaster in the making for many months of its production, everything seems to be coming together well at this stage and a few more insights into the production are certainly welcome. Click the images below for larger shots.
Plot Summary: Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names of Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.
Question: The L.A. Times quoted you this week as saying that you would be playing “the head of an alien planet” in Neill Blomkamp’s next film, Elysium. Would you say that’s an accurate description of the role?
JODIE FOSTER: Yes. I hope I’m allowed to say that. I think I’m allowed to say that. That’s pretty vague.
Is there anything else you can say about the film?
FOSTER: Those sci-fi movies are all really hush-hush. I don’t even own a screenplay. They won’t even give me a screenplay. I’ve read it, but they won’t give me one to physically keep in my home ‘cause they’re so worried about everybody.
What was it about that project that appealed to you and made you want to get involved? Did you just want to work with Neill Blomkamp?
FOSTER: Yes, definitely. He did District 9, which I think is as close to a perfect movie as you can get. It’s just an extraordinary film. And, this film has a lot of that social commentary in it, but uses sci-fi to get there. It’s great.
Grevioux was the co-creator of the Underworld series of films, which was also produced by Lakeshore Entertainment.
Plot concept: I, Frankenstein pictures a modern-day world where the classic literary monster stands between humans and a host of other supernatural creatures looking to rise up and take over.

That’s right. Hold those Criterion Blu-ray editions a little closer to your heart, or go check out the anime series on Blu-ray, Samurai 7, which transposes it all into a far flung futuristic science fiction setting.
Original Plot Summary: One of the most thrilling movie epics of all time, Seven Samurai (Shichinin no samurai) tells the story of a sixteenth-century village whose desperate inhabitants hire the eponymous warriors to protect them from invading bandits. This three-hour ride from Akira Kurosawa—featuring legendary actors Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura—seamlessly weaves philosophy and entertainment, delicate human emotions and relentless action, into a rich, evocative, and unforgettable tale of courage and hope
Of particular interest is that while they’re going back to the 60′s with First Class, they intend to come back to the present with more X-Men as she says, “We took the treatment to Fox and they love it… And X4 leads into X5.”
The mag also asks her about The Wolverine, though it was prior to the Arronofsky exit, which has her stating, “It will have depth and a dramatic backbone. And yet there’s more action in this one than in any one we’ve ever done. It’s such a good script. We have the great Christopher McQuarrie writing and it’s very true to the Japanese saga. This is Logan on his own…”
One area that should please fans is the potential for the Deadpool feature and how it will handle what has come before with X-Men Origins: Wolverine which left fans decidedly cold at best about that interpretation of the character: “[Deadpool will be] a total reboot. We’re either going to pretend that didn’t happen, or mock it, which he could do.”
“You’ll see all of them. You’ll see Wade Wilson, the good-looking Ryan Reynolds! You’ll see Deadpool in his costume and you’ll see the cancer-scarred face.”
Plot summary: Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all going on: he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in his high school. Unable to convince anyone, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.

“The first [world] is an alternate version of Earth in the near future, decades after an historic date in November 2012 when the first kaiju, a towering Godzilla-like beast, emerged from a hole in the Pacific Ocean and attacked the city of Osaka, Japan,” wrote News in Film. “The second [world] is The Anteverse, another universe on the other side of that gaping portal, 5 miles below our ocean’s surface.”
The site has more supposed details of what Pacific Rim will be about, with lots of gigantic monsters being hurtled out into the world, and lots of massive mechanized suits and weapons to defeat them, giving it all a very anime film since western movies rarely tend to do anything with “giant robots” outside of it being a comedy of some sort.
The feature has a theatrical release date of August 5th and the Facebook page is intending to do a behind the scenes look at it on Wednesday.
Plot summary: James Franco is set to play a scientist working on a cure for Alzheimer’s by testing on apes. When test subject Caesar suddenly begins to mutate rapidly, the scientist takes him home to remove him from the cruel lab doctors.

Scream 4 did alright overall, bringing in just under $20 million, but it definitely fell short of expectations and is likely to slip further as time goes on as it’s not expected to have legs. Especially in the next two weeks where various vacations are in effect and films like Rio and Hop will do pretty well, as will the very, very successful financially Soul Surfer. Hop made it in for another $11 million this weekend with its standard 2D approach which means it had less revenue from ticket prices but Soul Surfer added another $7.5 million, bringing it to $20 million on a $10 million dollar budget. The domestic take has essentially brought it to breaking even and profitable with the marketing campaign and it will do pretty well this week as well, in addition to international markets.
The rest of the list is pretty dismal, for better or worse. Arthur didn’t have anywhere to go but down while Hanna is still adding more to its coffers with about a thousand fewer screens and some solid word of mouth. Your Highness dropped even further, adding only another $4 million for its second week, making it quite the disappointment. It likely won’t make most of its money back but I suspect it’ll find a good following on home video and through premium channels for awhile.
