The estimates are in for the weekend with what to expect from the box office and things are shaking out in some interesting ways. It’s proving to be a good time of the year to release Act of Valor as it hit just under $25 million for the weekend, earning it the top spot on a budget that’s between $15-20 million, making it quite the good vehicle for Relativity Media. No surprise after that as the latest Tyler Perry movie, Good Deeds, has drawn some good numbers, especially when you look at the differences in locations and averages. After that, things drop off but it becomes important to look at the cume at this point for them as they build up their weekday nest egg, especially as a lot of kids and parents took time off this past week for school vacations. For the anime fans, The Secret World of Arrietty continues to excel as it brought in another $4.5 this weekend on top of its weekday earnings to bring the film up to just under $15 million total, which is especially impressive since it’s playing on only 1500 screens and is really the only strong family entertainment out there besides Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Journey 2, both of which go for very different approaches.
