‘Ascension’ Series Hopes Dashed Syfy ran its three night event series last fall with Ascension in an attempt to try and build it similar to Battlestar Galactica where it goes the miniseries route and then garners enough interest for a full on series. Unfortunately, the project didn’t get what the network was looking for and they’ve passed on it in terms of taking it to series with all the open ended threads within it.

“We were very happy with Ascension as an event series, but with so much high profile development in the works, we have decided not to pursue a full series,” Syfy said in a statement to Deadline .

The series averaged 1.8 million viewers for it when it landed last year.

The show was written and exec produced by Philip Levens of Smallville fame and was be produced in Montral by Sea to Sky Studios and Blumhouse Productions.

Plot concept: Ascension is set onboard starship Ascension. In 1963, the U.S. government launched a covert space mission sending hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard the Ascension to populate a new world. Nearly 50 years into the journey, as they approach the point of no return, the mysterious murder of a young woman causes the ship’s population to question the true nature of their mission.
