‘Donten ni Warau (Laughing Under the Clouds)’ Anime Gets New Music Promo With First DVD/BD Release The fall 2014 anime series Donten ni Warau, which is localized as Laughing Under the Clouds as distributed by FUNimation for simulcast, has released the first box set for the show in Japan through VAP. With that release this week, the distributor has put together a new nearly two minute long music promo to highlight the soundtrack side of the release as well as some very appealing artwork for it. While we’re still seeing plenty of six disc releases for most series that help to build up the rental aspect, this series is getting a pair of box set releases. The first one landed on January 21st, 2015 and the second is set for March 25th, 2015. The Blu-ray box set priced at 16,200 yen while the DVD is priced at 14,040. That’s certainly more affordable than normal and it’s also eliminating the lengthier wait between volumes to get the same amount of material – and it’s less shipping costs overall for importers.

The first set contains three discs with six episodes overall covered in it along with a soundtrack release, a character CD and a booklet. On-disc extras are not available yet.

The series stars Yūichi Nakamura as Tenka Kumo, Yuuki Kaji as Soramaru Kumo, Tsubasa Yonaga as Chūtarō Kumo, Takahiro Sakurai as Shirasu Kinjō., Mamiko Noto as Nishiki, Shinichiro Miki as Naoto Kagami, Rina Satou as Botan, Kenichi Suzumura as Abe no Hirari, Hiro Shimono as Rakuchō Takeda, Hiroki Yasumoto as Seiichirou Takamine and Sayaka Ohara as Kiiko Sasaki.

It’s directed by Hiroshi Haraguchi based on scripts by Yuuya Takahashi with Doga Kobo animating it. Takao Maki is handling the character designs for the series.

Plot concept: In the eleventh year of the Meiji era carrying swords was forbidden by the government and those known as samurai were slowly fading away. However, there were plenty who didn’t like those changes taking place in Japan and inevitably the crime rates increased. The country’s only solution was an inescapable lake prison. Since the prison had no other way to access it except by water, the three boys of the Kumo family were assigned to transport the criminals to their new “home”. Although, is that the only thing they were doing…?
