Star Wars Thursday: Origami Fiesta Edition

(C) Folding Trees

Welcome to this week’s edition of Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of all things fun, wild, and wacky in the Star Wars universe!

Star Wars fandom permeates every aspect of our society. Okay, that sounds really hokey, but it’s true! This past week my sons begged me to go out and buy a brand new book called Darth Paper Strikes Back by Tom Angleberger. Believe it or not, it’s not the first book that involves an origami version of a Star Wars icon. Perhaps you weren’t aware of the fact that Yoda now dispenses advice in the form of a small origami finger puppet? Or that the most recent book features origami Darth Vader? Don’t delay, check it out today !

Of course, you know I couldn’t just leave it at that. Another recent video that was making the rounds recreated a battle sequence using ships made out of origami. As an added bonus, it was to promote the new Moleskin Star Wars notebooks!

Do you want to make your own X-Wing to recreate that battle? I’ll admit – I’m not fabulous at following origami directions. I had good intentions of making this X-Wing fighter and posting the picture here. Alas, on the “Do, or do not…” front – it looks like I’m a “do not”. I guess that is why I fail, though I did get a bit further than I thought I would!

If you just can’t get enough paper folding Star Wars, there are other sites to try. This site has diagrams for things like this Tie Fighter. It also includes designs for a Millennium Falcon and R2-D2! I’d love to see people fold these designs and make their own scene recreations.

As for me? I got frustrated trying these complicated designs. Frustration leads to anger, and as the wise Yoda says, “anger leads to hatred”… and we all know where that leads! As I’m a Jedi at heart, I think I’ll pass on more paper folding for the day. If you give them a shot, though, post your best creations here!

I’ll see you back here next week. Until then, may the Force – and the folding – be with you.
