Encouragement Of Climb Season 2 Episode 17

The fear in this one is strong.

What They Say:
Aoi wants to climb Mt. Tanigawa, but is worried about handling the required ropeway and ski-lift due to her fear of heights. Hinata suggests they all visit a big nature fun park for a change of pace from mountains. While Aoi has a great time with the girls, could the trip be serving an additional purpose?

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Aoi’s time after Mt. Fuji has definitely been good to watch as we’ve seen her hit up a couple of very easy climbs in order to just remind herself why she loves all of this. Some she did herself, some had a moment with Hinata, but she also had a semi-family climb with her mother along with Hinata and her father. That’s all worked well to ease us back into things in a natural way rather than just being overdone, such as trying to climb Mt. Fuji again. Now that they’ve decided on Mt. Tanigawa as their next destination, they’re getting in the right mindset for it. But Aoi is still really nervous in a big way about the rope bridge and ski lift, which I certainly can’t blame her for.

Hinata comes up with a good plan though as they instead had to a nature park for a bit in order to just recharge their batteries, so to speak. It’s a pretty fun place in general, especially for younger kids, but there’s enough fun for these four girls as well that are still in touch with their inner child. There’s a lot of activities to be had – and busses that take you around the park in fact – that the girls get to experience a range of things. There’s also some fun little play areas that play to the whole rope bridge aspect and more, so you can see that eating around the edge of Aoi’s mind when she sees it. But I like that we don’t just dive at that and instead continue on, which includes a little lake that they get to splash in a bit with their feet and enjoy, adding to the overall serene yet fun time they can have here.

A lot of what we get is just more continued fun bonding time for the girls, which is always a big plus for the show as they’re fun to watch even when doing something as simple as walking around, having lunch together or exploring the various parts of the nature park. It does, surprising no one, come to a point where there’s a rope bridge in the modern sense because it’s so completely secure and safe that it doesn’t fit into the way you view them in the classic sense. Aoi is not keen on it, but Hinata actually forces her across it in order to get her to realize that her fears are unfounded at this point. The girls have a lot of fun in general here, but it’s good to see some progress with Aoi as well. They all also get in touch with their inner selves a bit more on a bouncy mountain, which is just great to see because it’s full of such honest smiles of enjoyment.

In Summary:
Encouragement of Climb spends its time having a good bit of fun here with the girls being girls and enjoying nature and their own company. This is a good thing to do and have because it just further cements and explores the cast as they go about things in preparation for the next climb. Of course, it does have a bit that’s designed to help Aoi with her fear, but it’s not overdone and is generally a good bit of fun overall because of it. I can totally understand being afraid of the mental view of a rope bridge, and certainly even the bridge she fears here, but it’s also good to see her friends are doing what they can to help her as well.
